I Need Your help...

As I've said before, I am without wit and devoid of any interestingly creative bones, juices, or complex internal structures. I therefore hope that you will help me. I have won my round of the mix competition and have moved to the second. Honestly, I didn't think I would win but now that I did I want to. The first mix was thrown together pretty much except for the I Get Top Billin (and even that was a little lame) and now I'm competing with some cats that are more serious. I'm not scared of the, I just don't know what to do for a mix. This is where you come in. Now, I don't have turntables setup (baby took over my room) so there will not be any scratching but I can still tweak some shit, mash some shit up and I have stuff I've done over the years. Here's what I don't want to do:

1. a mix of all contemporary hip-hop (there's not enough really that would make a mix to win, if that makes sense to you.)
2. A mix of all old school (it just seems cliché and lame.)
3. A dirty south or hyphy mix (A: I don't really like it, and B: see #1)
So, what I was thinking was making a mix of rock that's more hip hop-y and hip hop that's a little more eclectic. What do you think? Do you have any requests for me to put in? Also, any requests (that I have or you can provide for me) I'll put in. It probably won't be the whole song but some element of it will be there. I promise. So, there's my dilemma. Help a brova out. The picture has nothing to do with anything, I just like her bum.
Pace.

Ah, well because my roots aren't really from hip-hop, i can only sugest you to try something a bit new. It may seem really really stupid but you'll have first place on creativity. Take classic music like mozart and bach and shit and mix it with hip-hop. Not in a way that the classic music will take the show but just as a bridge to the mix itself. It can be a good replacment for the turntable, you put classic shit everywhere in the mix, its your decision. It may sound good and it may sound awful but i think i can trust your proness :). Good luck man, your first mix was great and i hope your second one will be better.

Alright some classical shit then. I'm on it. Thanks man.

man, just take us for a ride with some shit we know. play for a larger audience as opposed to a few of the ture..
me, personally, i prefer joints that shoulda been singles but wasn't (constant elevation gravediggaz). or singles that shoulda banged but didn't (roots cody chestnutt). of course, in the end it's all opinion anyway.

i don't know the rules that dumpin set, but you got 30 minutes on that other shit..
i figure you can take us on 2-3 phazes about 10-15 minutes each. cut each song to about 2-3 minutes so you can squeeze at least 10 joints.
1 mellow phaze like tribe de la native tongue ish, then some dancey club shit, then come down a bit again.

i'm listening to your mix now as i write this and walk about the crib, and i like it more when the songs sort of mesh into each other. the throwing in the song right after the other one should only be allowed once in a 30 minute period.

ok. i'm going to sleep. i'm babbling.

@ Al, yeah I like the beat mixing stuff a lot more. It's just a lot more time consuming in acid than simply pitching a record. But cry me a river. Thanks for the comments. Where you been?

fucker juat use one of them cheater mixing programs. lol nothing time consuming with that.
i was just elsewhere babbling about house music.. now THOSE djs know how to mix a record. cats from the 80s compared to lazy rap djs that just scratch the shit out of a record.
i been in school getting my ass kicked.

How about some Go! Team? It's not really hip hop but more rock mixed with it (and a lot of other genres).
They have a song with Chuck D on their new record.
Get some Roots and maybe some early RJD2 or Cut Chemist or some dope instrumentals (Premo, Pete Rock, Large Pro, etc.) as bridge music.
I should be checking here more often. You got a great blog here.

@ Aaron. I already finished the mix but thanks. I actually tried to put some Go Team in there but it just didn't work and/or make the cut. Roots, check. Premo, check. I also was going to put a bunch of pete and large pro stuff in there with some samples from Alan Watts for interludes but that didn't work out. You got great ideas though. I'm putting the mix up today so I hope you dig it. Pace.
